The Great American Smokeout (GASO) is a national awareness program by the American Cancer Society (ACS) to talk about the effects of smoking and share resources to quit. Human Response Network (HRN) will be at two locations on November 17th to raise awareness about the event by providing quitting resources and free quit kits. HRN will be in Hayfork at Wiley’s Supermarket from 10:00 am to 12 noon and in Weaverville on the patio of Up North Confectionary, Mercantile, & Eatery from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. Stop by our booth if you are considering quitting tobacco products or supporting someone trying to quit.
Smoking is still the leading preventable cause of death, with 480,000 deaths per year and more than 41,000 caused by secondhand smoke. There is no risk-free level of exposure to secondhand smoke or vaping aerosol, even after a short period of exposure for either children or adults. Smoking and vaping can damage the lungs, can cause or worsen asthma and other respiratory infections, cause strokes, and increase the risk of heart attacks and lung cancer.
For help with quitting smoking, vaping, hookah, and chew, you can talk or text with a KICKiT CA quit coach who can provide anonymous support. Call 1-800-300-8086 or visit https://kickitca.org/ for more information.
HRN’s Tobacco Education Program always has free quit kits available with local, anonymous, and national resources to help begin the quit journey. Contact HRN at (530)623-2024 for more information.
